Once a Mole...

and that is her done. It's been a (really very) difficult three weeks. But I couldn't have wished for a better last day for her. They pulled out all the stops from almost the moment she arrived.

They had arranged a breakfast party, with hot chocolate and pastries. They had made the most gorgeous huge card with notes and photos and a year group photo just from yesterday. She was spoilt rotten with cards and gifts. She chose their games, their treat TV show. Her face was plastered on the screens for the day. They spent half an hour outside taking photos. They did the traditional presentation of her briefcase. When the end of the day came, they gave her a guard of honour with her class while the other y6 class clapped from across the playground, complete with all the year 6 teachers and the school Headteacher.

She cried in the playground, she admitted later. I cried seeing the photo of her in the playground. I'm so proud of her for how she's handling it all. I'm so delighted for her that she leaves with precious memories of the last day, in all the hard times she's had recently.

It was her piano lesson after school. They did that straight away and then spent time looking through all her messages and photos with a gorgeous little smile on her face.

The Headteacher called me during the day to wish us well and have a chat about it all. He has a saying.... "Once a Mole, Always a Mole". He said "that includes the parents too, you know". Time for a little bit of rose-tinted nostalgia in our house tonight. And a few big breaths for Mummy as we now truly are on the path for her departure. Just to remind me of it, her school blazer arrived today. Here we go....
