Canberra ( closed )

We decided to check out Cotter Campsite where we were booked to stay this week but it is still closed due to the floods. There was a lot of water in the river. We had intended to go to Tinbinbilla Astronomy complex but it was closed due to Covid. So we went to Mount Stromlo Observatory which was closed in 2003 due to a bushfire ( the main derelict shot is taken from inside the burnt out dome). Well we are used to changing our plans so we called back into the Aboretum for lunch as we were passing. The car park was closed as it was full. Apparently half of the Canberrans had gone there today. But we found another carpark and walked up to the visitors centre where the line up was too much to cope with. We ended up getting a sandwich between us at one of those pop up coffee vans but the coffee was a 15min wait. Maybe they had run out of coffee beans or milk. We chose a cool drink and sat outside in the sun watching the people wandering past.  Next we walked out to the Margaret Whitlam building ( see extra) but it was closed for cleaning.

Not all was lost as we found some new gardens and had a look around in a different place to usual. See extra.

After that exciting morning we decided to come back to the van and had to close the windows as they were mowing the grass and pressure cleaning the concrete. I lay down and closed my eyes....bliss.

I wasn’t sure what I would post today but choose this as it’s Derelict Sunday (hosted each week by Marlieske) and I often don’t have anything derelict. It was a bit of a drive up the mountain but worth seeing the remains of the buildings.
