Lockdown Portrait

This has been quite a day.

Everyone in the UK will have been talking about how to ease forward out of lockdown, carefully. For those who are shielding, it’s doubly challenging. For us, it’s not just an issue for coming weeks and months, but for the foreseeable future.

Last summer we had a look at a holiday park to the north of where we live, not local but not too far either. The site has been with the same family for 50 years, is in a beautiful location, and managed to fit in well with the natural landscape in which it sits. It felt friendly with a real sense of community, and comfortable in terms of privacy and space.

We had a look around again today. We were masked all the time we were there. No one will have an idea of what we look like, this look is just so 2021.

The bird life was fab - saw the first sand martins of the year flying over, heard our first curlews and saw lapwings displaying. It was the first time we have talked directly to anyone who isn’t a neighbour, gas engineer or health professional for months, which J especially found very challenging.

And it proved to be our most expensive ever day trip.
