The shallow end . . .

. . . and so inviting - but what you don't see is the shot I felt you'd rather not, of a dark-brown, gurgling, sudsy stream of toxic run-off flowing over the rocks and into the sea at the north end of the beach. That's why the "No Swimming" signs are up, here at Malua Bay and at other surfing spots nearby. Two or three reckless souls did take the plunge today at the south end of the beach, but it will be a few days before the water is as good as it looks and the rest of us venture in.
