Dedication
The Center for Student Success building has been in use now for almost two years. Today, however, the building was given a partial new name and serious recognition was given to the former president of our college and her husband, who is now deceased.
Drs. Brenda & William Davis were both thoroughly involved in this campus and helped immensely in guiding this campus into the status of a college. Brenda started her employment at the Riverside Community College District over 30 years ago. Originally Brenda was trained as a nurse in the Harlem School of Nursing in New York. I don't know her journey previous to her days with the District, but she begin with RCCD teaching in the nursing program.
When she spoke today, she mentioned that her expertise in nursing was in the psychiatric ward and that was where she learned to care for people. She spoke for a few moments about the importance of people and caring about them. She also spoke wonderful words about her husband, who passed away several years ago due to cancer, and thanked the college that Bill was always welcome. In the last years of his life after he retired from the medical profession, Bill was at the college all the time. Everyone loved him.
I had not seen Brenda since she retired almost two years ago. She is obviously enjoying retirement. Today was good.
Good night from Southern California.
