Sunlight on Tulips
Another cold, grey day today, bar about half an hour when the clouds cleared and the sun came out. Not much to photograph in my garden at the moment, but I quite liked the abstract nature of the sun on a small patch of tulips. Just some gardening today - digging in manure and planting some seeds wasn't really conducive to a blip!
Day 382 / Day 87 of Lockdown 3 / Day 26 of Step 1 of Roadmap Easing (for my record only)
UK deaths up 52 to 126,816 (revised basis), with 3,402 new cases, 3,723 patients in hospital, 517 on ventilation and 273 new admissions. No updated UK R rate was given today, the reason given was the local management of the virus - which doesn't make sense. The R rate for England is 0.8-1.0, with a growth rate of -4% to 0%. Globally cases to date have passed 130m, there were c90k new cases in Brazil and 50k in France, 40k in Turkey and 35k in Poland. 31.3m have now received their first dose of the vaccine and 4.9m have had their second dose. The UK has reported 30 blood clotting cases to 21st March after the AZ jab, up 6 fold from the number previously reported but no reason was given for the sudden rise and no details were given of age or gender of those affected. The MHRA said there were 22 cases of CVST (a rare brain clot) and 8 other thrombosis events with low platelets. This brings the UK more in line with other EU countries reporting such events, although with many more vaccine doses given at 18m (2nd doses might be similar numbers though?) The Netherlands has stopped using the AZ vaccine for under 60s alongside a number of other countries. Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kenya and the Philippines have been added to the red list from 9th April. The CMO says that coronavirus safety measures are likely to still be necessary for another two years. The Stay at Home order in Scotland has been lifted and people have been told to a stay local. The PM again warns people not to socialise indoors, even if vaccinated.
