Happy Birthday

Mrs C’s second birthday spent in lockdown, but this was a significant one!
Only token presents to unwrap as what she wants for her birthday we can’t get until the shops reopen later this month.
Still, no reason why we can’t have as nice a day as possible, especially as it was shaping up to be a really fine sunny day. Sausage buns for breakfast got us off to a flying start and then it was just a case of chilling for the rest of the morning and catching up on all the good wishes posting on social media. Even managed to grab hold of the landscape gardener working next door to ask him to measure up and quote for replacing our rotten decking. Whether we stay or go, it’s something that desperately needs doing.
After an early lunch, we went out for a walk in the sunshine. Slow stroll up to the castle and then down into town for a coffee. Strava threw a bit of a wobbly on the way home - distance and time were roughly correct but our route showed up on the map as a perfectly straight line from Market Place to home. Looks like we just ploughed through peoples houses and gardens in an attempt to get home as quickly as possible!
Mrs C’s choice of tea, followed by a slice of chocolate cake. Even managed to get a second use out of the candles we had for my 60th last year.
I’d like to hope that this time next year things will be a lot more “normal” and we can have the sort of birthday where you can go out for a meal, see friends and maybe even take in a show. But with more dire warnings about virus mutations, question marks over vaccines and the propensity of the great British public to ignore the rules, I do wonder if we might not still be subject to various social distancing restrictions.
Maybe it’s time to review our future plans for travelling the world. If that’s not going to be a possibility, perhaps we should look at investing in our future here. Could the move to a bigger house be looking more likely?
Frankly, the jury is still out on that one. Let’s see how things actually pan out over the next few weeks, rather than listening to the guesses - sorry, scientific predictions - of the “experts”, before making our final decision.
