Easter Eve
Phew!
It commemorates the day that Jesus' body lay in the tomb and the Harrowing of Hell. Some call the day the Holy and Great Sabbath, considering it a day of rest for Jesus.
Traditions include the lighting of fires, lighting candles, baptisms & first communions. And, believe it or not, Bacup Coconut Dancers. The Britannia dancers spend all day touring the streets of Bacup dancing to the sound of a brass band.
Last year I was working with a group of children exploring Easter. I asked them where Jesus might be on that first Easter Saturday? He was no longer on the cross. Maybe in the tomb? One boy said, “he’s gone to find his friend Judas”.
Brilliant!
So happy Saturday folks.
