Spring in the Grove
Saturday
The day started with another frost, though not as cold as the previous night, and under blue skies and sunshine, we warmed up to about 62F. We had a bit of a lazy start, but then I got out to cut the grass, while Roger ran a few errands. In the afternoon, we went walking at Spring Grove Cemetery and arboretum, which was a real picture.. I took lots of photographs, so it had to be another collage. As yesterday, their beautiful magnolias were damaged by the frost, but I was able to find some buds on one tree, that were largely untouched. It was a beautiful sensory walk, as besides all the flowers and blossom, the birds were singing their hearts out!
Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers to-day;
And give us not to think so far away
As the uncertain harvest; keep us here
All simply in the springing of the year.
Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,
Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;
And make us happy in the happy bees,
The swarm dilating round the perfect trees.
And make us happy in the darting bird
That suddenly above the bees is heard,
The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill,
And off a blossom in mid air stands still.
For this is love and nothing else is love,
The which it is reserved for God above
To sanctify to what far ends He will,
But which it only needs that we fulfil.
