Teddy's Bogus Journey
Today's image, taken on the way to get the Sunday papers, is of an old poster for Paulo's Circus which is wrapped round a telegraph pole in the car park of a pet shop (where else would it be!) in Ditton, advertising what would have been forthcoming performances in Leybourne.
Paulo's circus started in 1816 with the family originating from the union of Henry Butcher and Caroline Baker - better known as Madame Blondin.
She performed from the 1860's onwards - most famously getting into difficulties on the high wire whilst performing with Pablo Fanque's circus in 1869.
Henry was a travelling showman on the fairgrounds and they went on to have five children, most of who became involved in the circus. The family have continued to be emersed in the circus business from that time until the present day under various names - including Riskit Brothers Circus, Reaney's Circus and Gilbert and Paulo's Circus.
This particular poster is from the 2018 Back 2 The 80's tour, including a section called Teddy's Bogus Journey (a play on the 1991 film Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey), with it's aim to be "filled with entertainment and thrills that keep you on the edge of your seat" - encompassing a wheel of death, juggling and knife throwing, lazers, acrobats and a high wire act.
Unfortunately, I missed it at the time as I was on holiday - damn!
I just also want to take this chance to say Happy Easter to all my fellow blippers. Hope you're having a great time!
Looking forward to my dinner now - slow roasted shoulder of pork (six hours), with roasties, mash, veg and spicy gravy. Pudding is home made lemon and ginger cheesecake with poached rhubarb. My mouth is watering already!
