Looking back

I began recording my Dad's oral history today and we covered a LOT of ground - and we've only done his childhood so far. Although I've heard many of the stories before it was fascinating to hear them in careful detail and I found out things I had previously been unaware of, such as why Nanny Hump was so-called, how you adjust the firing height of fireworks, that rook ropes are better than gunpowder, how long it takes to pick up a bag of eels off a pub floor when tipped out, and much, much more besides. Some of it even had to be off-the-record! ;)

This is the view from my parents' back door.
