Purple leaved cherry plum
An early morning visit to Arley Nursery, to collect four pots, peat free compost (wool and bracken) and mulch (bracken), and four perennials. An interesting visit, pots are selling fast, so I seem to have got there just in time.
One side of the nursery is bounded by a purple leaved cherry plum hedge, a fine thing at this time of year, The blossoms are delightful.
Mid afternoon, a visit to Tatton Park. I have been looking at its history during the Second World War (thank you to pleach) when much of the park was taken up with an airstrip and associated uses. It was a hive of military activity. It is a very different place now. The sheep in the extra look to be in a very rural setting (extra) although very close inspection reveals distant views of the tallest residential towers in Manchester City Centre. It’s closer than I imagine,
Highlight of the afternoon - 2-300 sand martins hawking over Melchett Mere
