Lake Tekapo.

After a good night's sleep (despite another night of rain and wind) we headed back up the way we came towards Queenstown. Instead of heading straight from Queenstown to Lake Tekapo we took a little detour back up the highway towards Franz. The reason for said detour is that on journey south we passed the most incredible wineries but had been too late in the day to stop at any.

Unsure about which winery to go for we took a punt on the third one we came across called Chard Farm. Almost immediately there was an air of doubt as I pulled the Sunny up onto what was essentially a gravel track at a ridiculous incline. But the Sunny put up a grand fight and we eeked precariously along the road and arrived at a beautiful farm. Several wines were tasted (all free of charge too) until I achieved some beautiful 'wine cheeks' and passed the keys over to Niki. We deliberated quite some time about which wines we were going to purchase, how much and whether we could fit them into our bags and get them back to the UK without suffering loss. (You will be glad to hear that their transit home was successful and there is a lovely bottle of Riesling and Gewurtztraminer chilling in my fridge.)

After a few obligatory photos and a use of the free wi-fi we were back on the road and heading once more towards Lake Tekapo. It was another long but scenic drive and we arrived at the campsite mid-afternoon. After setting up the tent we treated ourselves to another trip to some Hot Pools before heading into the tiny township for some late evening scran.

Two pizzas and a beer or so later we departed Pepe's and headed back to the campsite where electrical goods were recharged and a bottle of red wine was consumed. Off to the tent one last time before our journey home began.
