Defending the realm

To help keep the little grey cells active I am slowly working on a website devoted to local relics from WW2. This morning I headed north a few miles  to Port Errol to photograph the cliff-top remains of a LORAN station.

LORAN, short for long range navigation, was a hyperbolic radio navigation system for ships and aircraft developed during World War II. These impressive brick walls were designed to protect the buildings containing the electronics and generators from bomb blast. I'm not at all sure what the contemporary mural represents!

The photograph was taken looking into the sun; turn 90 degrees as shown in the extra and the world suddenly becomes much more colourful.

Look careful at the main photograph for evidence that we are now never more that 10 feet from the nearest abandoned face mask!
