Maine's Sistine Chapel
Dear Diary,
I heard about this amazing place in South Solon, Maine about two years ago but the pandemic kept me from visiting. Finally, I was able to see the stunning frescos in the tiny 1841 meetinghouse. They were painted in the 1950's by art students from the nearby Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. It is lovingly preserved by the local historical society and it is a must-see destination in central Maine. Depicting various biblical scenes from both the old and new Testaments, some images reminded me of Marc Chagall. ( I've added a few extra views. ) This was my first post-vaccination sojourn and it felt so good to be out and about.
You can read a bit about the frescos here.
