Clint Cross
This morning we had another ride out to the wonderful Sophie's in Hampsthwaite to meet a couple of friends for coffee and cake.
On the way back we pass through Clint. I have passed this ancient and listed monument known as Clint Cross many times without ever really taking any notice of it.
The three steps form a cross base - the cross is missing - and on the south side are the old stocks. The inscription 'Palliser The Tailor' refers to William Palliser, a former stonemason who had a shop in Parliament Street, Harrogate c1890.
My research tells me that the wooden stock rails were replaced in 1962. They are still in working order as can be seen in today's extra. Fortunately I was released again.
