Big Red on a Big Day
Big Red, aka red-bellied woodpecker, has visited for several days in a row but not until this morning did I get a photo of him. They tend to be elusive and I’m thinking the cold temperatures and bit of snow made him hungry enough to stick around. It was thrilling to watch him on the suet ball feeder, then drop to the ground for a nut, and back up again. Suddenly, there were two! A female had joined him for a few seconds but then flew off into the trees across the street. How exciting they are nesting nearby • Later this afternoon we’ll be receiving our first covid vaccine shots. We’re hoping this main event is mostly uneventful, and we wake up in the morning with only a couple of sore arms • Keep your chins up and stay positive out there!
