We WILL Remember Them - ANZAC
Today we, along with Australians all over the world, commemorate ANZAC Day.
The combined forces of the Australia & New Zealand Army Corps landed on the Western side of the peninsula losing 5,000 troops, that area is known as ANZAC Cove.
In all almost 11,500 ANZAC lost their lives with total casualties of 36,141 including wounded.
Other allied troops were involved but this was the ANZAC largest loss in a single campaign.
Total figures can be seen at this website Gallipoli casualties by country | NZHistory, New Zealand history online
A memorial was being built on one of my visits to Ploegsteert, Belgium. A rather touching memorial which the workmen were kind enough to vacate off to the side while I took a couple of photos.
The second year we are unable to attend a service in Leighterton village, Gloucestershire, where 23 Australians are buried after dying in accidents while undergoing flying training.
