It’s colder in the country

We went to see Mum who I hadn’t seen for 6months. Mum hadn’t seen C for over a year! Gosh it was so good to see her after all this time. Unfortunately it was very cold outside so we sat in the garage and drank tea, laughed a lot, exchanged Christmas presents and had lunch. We maintained a safe distance but it was difficult not to give mum a hug.

We were quite late leaving but I just wanted to go to the churchyard to see dad who has been in this better place (with a great view) for 17years now. We all miss him so much. I was concerned I wouldn’t make it up the hill but dad helped me get there I’m sure. It was good to talk to him and tell him about everything that has been going on. He knew most of it of course cos he can see from where he is !

Mum gave me the news today that the church (pictured) will close in the next year or so. Despite mums hard work raising funds and trying to keep it open, it has been confirmed that it will close down. It will become redundant unfortunately because of lack of support. Of course a year or so ago thieves stripped off the lead roof and that was the beginning of the end.

It’s a lovely old church but like all ancient monuments it eats money, and no one wants to give these days. It’s all about personal possessions wanting to have a faster car than anyone or wanting a bigger house. It’s a shame the old ways are dying, but unfortunately that’s progress.

Mum was very well and so pleased to see us and so good with C .

After the church visit we zoomed home and C was tired and pleased to be home in her comfortable chair.

Relaxed for the rest of the afternoon and it was much warmer here than in the countryside.

Thanks for calling and stay safe everyone.

Richard
