The Thames in Battersea

Today I said goodbye to an old friend. His memorial was at the Guards Chapel and he would surely have been gratified to see the every seat occupied and still they stood in the aisles. The service was full of the poignant hymns, powered by 800 enthusiastic voices, and readings - tribal I once thought, now having mellowed, I relish them for their fellow feeling, and no longer stand apart. "Soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase" raised tears as it often does with Holst's music. Where else can they "do" I vow to thee my country and Jerusalem so well?

I took a longer walk home while it all sank in.

God love you Johnny!
