A Grand Day Out
Visited another country for the first time in nearly two years. I want to say 'it was only Wales' but that belittles the majesty of the country and in particular Snowdonia.
We chose a quiet mountain, Anerig Fawr and we only came across seven other people all day, and four of those were paragliding above us! It was glorious, sunny, very dry, but with a cooling breeze which helped as the climb of nearly 500 metres was our first serious mountain walking for some time. This view, taken from just below the summit, takes in Harlech behind R, the Moelwynyon, Snowdon Horseshoe, Glyderau, Tryfan, and Carneddau in a sweeping panorama.
On the summit of the mountain is a memorial to the crew of a U.S. Flying Fortress that crashed in to the mountain in 1943. There were even small metal fragments from the plane in the shelter next to the memorial.
A truly wonderful day and reminder of why 'getting high' is so enjoyable.
