Big London Wheel
I like my new journey to work - my local train station, change at Clapham and then I'm in Waterloo (cue The Kinks and ABBA) in no time at all. I walk over Waterloo Bridge and through Embankment Gardens and there's my office. All quick and easy so far. I like working back in this area of London - I missed it this past year after my old firm moved to King's Cross.
Met a couple of colleagues in my new work who used to be my colleagues in my old company (publishing is such a small community). We caught up over lunch and it seemed like no time at all had gone past since we last worked together.
Reading the local paper on the way home I see our mayor has proposed giving cyclists the right to jump red lights in order to get ahead of the traffic. This is bound to ignite the old argument 'cyclists vs other road users', and I'm uneasy that the rules will get so muddy that pedestrians may have a point (they already do for some cyclists). To put it in context, two cyclists died last week in accidents involving heavy goods vehicles. These were ladies who were just trying to get to work. I can't see an easy solution to figuring out a good and safe cycle network in London, and the mayor's proposal won't work, but it's good to keep cycling at the top of the agenda. I could cycle into work, but it has to get a lot easier before I give up my fast train journey.
