St Bernard's Well

Stopped for a walk along the water of leith this morning before the rain got too heavy. The building was designed in 1789 by Edinburgh artist Alexander Nasmyth at the site of a natural spring  discovered in 1760 and thought by locals to have healing powers. The figure depicts Greek goddess of health Hygeia. The well was named after the 12 century St Bernard of Clairvaux who was said to live in a cave nearby. That's enough history for today!
