Roman
Today felt like summer temperatures could be arriving, with a sultriness to the air that has been lacking. I went with my friend Georgina to Wandlebury Country Park a few miles from Cambridge where we spent a good five hours tramping around and lolling in the sun. Georgina is a good, insightful egg and I wish I’d had her wisdom when I was 29.
Interconnected footpaths join an old Roman road on the edge of Wandlebury, with the ancient Fleam Dyke. Here in the Gog Magog Hills the scenery is spectacularly exciting compared to the flatness of most of Cambridgeshire. The land rolls and even Ely Cathedral is visible in the far distance. I wasn’t sure why the grass had a yellow strip at its edge unless it is some over-zealous weed control.
