Over your head
You hold an umbrella,
Protecting yourself
From more than just
The rain.
To hide yourself,
Your eyes,
Your pale face,
Vulnerability
And fear.
This sacred place
Beneath this shield
Is a haven,
A home to rest
As you curl yourself
Into the dry underside
And lay in the shallow
Dome, fearing
That they will see you
At all.
Coiled in this darkness
Hiding, fearing,
That even a drop
Will touch you.

Good things about today:
I had some lovely conversations with neighbours and strangers
Work didn’t stop me racking up 14,000 steps
It was mostly sunny
More progress on the bathroom
Only two days until the weekend
Saw a woman with an umbrella hat
