Tight fit Tit

We've been checking on the the nest every day and it's incredible just how big the chicks have grown already. 
They are also starting to get their feathers, but their eyes are still closed as yet. One in particular is a proper greedy little sod and sticks it's neck up and beak out as soon as it hears Mum nearby.

Mama (and Papa) Tit are non stop during the day, back and forth to feed the little ones. I've counted 5 chicks in the nest and they all appear to be doing well.

No doubt I will share more photos of the chicks in the next couple of weeks as they prepare to fledge, but for today's blip, I got the shot I was waiting for a week or so ago!

The nest is inside the brick pillar that holds up our patio roof. You'll see the piece of wood at the side, which should help to gauge the size of the gap she has to squeeze through.
It must be worth the hassle; we always thought that birds didn't return to a nest, but this is the 6th or 7th year they've nested here. To be fair, it's pretty perfect as it's protected from predators and the elements. :-)
