Studland

The forecast was atrocious for today - fifty mile an hour winds and lashing rain after lunch. Typical bank holiday.
We pretty much packed up last night so we could get off early this morning and make the most of a few hours at Studland before the weather got too bad.
We were so lucky! We parked in one of the campervan bays at the National Trust car park at Knoll Beach and had breakfast sitting outside the cafe. Bacon rolls, tea and cake all round. Yummy!
We walked along the beautiful beach to Fort Henry, the bunker at the end of Middle Beach. It was built to defend the bay from the Germans in WW2. There are lots of anti tank defences too along the dunes and cliffs as it was considered a prime possible invasion site for the Germans.
The bay was also used to practise for the D-Day Landings and six weeks before the real thing Churchill, Eisenhower, Mountbatten, Montgomery and George VI were all at Fort Henry to watch the rehearsals.
The Little Miss Lightweights went back to Marshall halfway through the walk which made me cross. But we had a lovely lunch at the Middle Beach Cafe without them. Cheesy fish for me, yummy!!!
We were so lucky with the weather, the wind was definitely picking up but it was sunny and there was no rain. The beach looked like a Caribbean island!!
A peruse of the National Trust shop for the obligatory fridge magnet and then it was time to head home. Via the always fun Poole ferry.
We were halfway home when the heavens opened and it lashed it down. The starving Lazy Misses asked for McDonalds for dinner and because it was easier than cooking when we got home I agreed. I made them go in and get it themselves though. Marshall can’t go through the drive thru and I was buggared if I was going out in that rain!!!! See extras.
