Wet Again so off to the River
This little fellow was making enough noise to be heard over the rushing river!
Dippers’ eyelids (extra) are very unusual, especially as they are covered in tiny white feathers (who knew that?) so they really stand out when a dipper blinks. I always thought this phenomenon was the nictitating membrane which helps dippers see underwater but it’s not. Apparently that membrane is a translucent whitish/bluish “third eyelid” that protects the eyes still allowing some vision while the dipper swims underwater.
Isn’t blip wonderful? It makes you research those explanations before you put something in the public space.
Hope you have had better weather wherever you are, and thanks for the military orchid presents too.
