First sighting

They're here! Not numerous or loud yet, but on the way. D. showed me a few exoskeletons back by the trees, and then we found this live one. Pretty striking with the red eyes, I think. There's a shed exoskeleton (I think that's the correct term) in the lower right corner.

I texted this photo to my mom and sis out in Seattle. Mom's reply was that he is Hugh. I think that was a mistaken auto-correct, but the cicada's now been christened Hugh.

A lovely hot day with low humidity. That won't last! I got loads done outdoors and ended up with a bit of sunburn. It was a good day to stay outside away from D, who was engrossed in 7 hours of exams, and W, who had a work presentation. I drove I. to school so I could use the car.

Meatballs and a bunch of veggies for dinner, followed by Ben & Jerry's tiramisu ice cream.
