Vaccination Day

I had my 2nd jab at lunchtime, no side effects so far. One of the stewards at Fakenham Medical Centre was saying they gave 1,200 jabs yesterday - not bad for a local surgery. So this morning I finished off my latest jigsaw and this afternoon I chilled out and watched a film whilst it rained and the wind got up. Good to see Great British Railways being set up (again?).

70% of UK adults have received at least one vaccine dose and 40% are fully vaccinated (including me). PHE data says 2 doses of AZ is between 85-90% effective and that our vaccine programme has prevented 13,000 deaths in the over 60s and saved 39,100 over 65s from needing hospital treatment. 34 and 35 year olds should get a text on Fri inviting them for a jab and Prince William had his today. New cases in the UK have started to go up again per the dashboard, but PHE data shows all regions bar the NW are stable. Between Apr and May, Test & Trace failed to forward full data on over 700 positive cases to 8 local councils including Blackburn (where the Indian variant is spreading) due to system issues - their processes and systems have been a disgrace (the issue is now resolved). Cases of the Indian variant have risen to 3,424, up 457 since yesterday (15%). Based on the Forbes rich list data and share prices, a coalition of charities has said that Covid vaccine profits have created at least 9 billionaires whose wealth could inoculate all the world’s poor - again I commend AZ’s approach to purely cover costs during the pandemic. The Home Secretary has said people who return to the UK from Amber List countries should expect a ‘knock on the door’ to check they’re self isolating. Unbelievably people returning to the UK from amber and red list countries are not segregated in airports, resulting in people from safer counties standing next to those from riskier countries for potentially hours.
