Let Us Pray
Sunny and very warm today. Sadly, that meant closing the house and turning on the a/c. We began the day at our county’s Youth Memorial for the annual Rosary and Mass. This small park in Great Mills, MD is dedicated to "Our Deceased Youth". According to a plaque in the park, Sr. M. Malone SCN had a Grotto to Mary erected on the grounds of St. Mary's Academy (in Leonardtown) in 1902. It served there as a shrine until 1984. When St. Mary's Academy merged with Ryken High School, and the buildings became part of the community college, the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth donated the grotto to the Memorial Park Prayer Area. The Grotto was moved by Ed and Agnes Tippett who started the memorial on their property after their young son was murdered during a robbery. In 1985, the names of deceased youth began to be inscribed on granite monuments. My 18 yr old sister who was struck and killed on her bike in 1979 and 2yr old great nephew who died from childhood cardiomyopathy are memorialized there. My mother led the rosary with the youth who attended. She also read during Mass. She and Mrs. Tipped organized a delicious lunch that was enjoyed afterwards. Otherwise, we rested, I worked on graduation favors, and attended 5:00 pm Mass. We then joined our oldest daughter and granddaughter at a new ice cream shop. Mmmm. Another day is not promised. Spend your allotted time wisely. Thanks for dropping by, your stars, hearts and lovely comments.
