Level Crossing Living

Today's images were taken on a very small solo Spring walk. The weather was still cold, blustery and wet. I managed to get these shots between rain showers.
My main image is of a railwayman's cottage which sits opposite the level crossing at Aylesford station. Both the station and this cottage are constructed of local Kentish ragstone and were built in the mid 1850's (the station itself actually opened on 18th June 1856). 
The station is on the Medway Valley Line - 38 miles down the line from London Charing Cross via Strood and situated between stations at New Hythe and Maidstone Barracks.
The extra is what used to be the building, now abandoned and overgrown, where me and my brother went to cub scouts when we were kids. We were never particularly keen so we had to be bribed by our mum with the promise of a bottle of coke and some Ranchero crisps (they no longer make these) - loved the tag line on the packet "They sure taste like bacon" (they didn't!) - when we got back. We were also allowed to stay up and watch The New Avengers on TV starring Patrick Macnee as John Steed, Gareth Hunt as Mike Gambit and the wonderful Joanna Lumley as Purdey. Those were the days!
