Mum's fruit cake

One of Dad's memories of Mum through the years is her fruit cakes.

During the years Dad was a ships engineer she never missed sending him a big rich fruit cake for every birthday and every Christmas when I was away at sea.

Mum still makes them for Dad today. He reckons in 60+ years (including the years they were courting and engaged) she has made about 120 of them.

Dad says he does the hand mixing for her these days "but it is worth it to nick a bit of the mix when she isn't looking".

I forgot to mention yesterday it was Dad's birthday too. He's a young looking 86 year old now.
