road trip

Hubby and I drove 3 hours to the Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge (near Alamosa, CO) to see the migrating Sandhill Cranes, and we were not disappointed!
The cranes migrate from New Mexico to the northern Rockies and about 5,000 of the birds stop at the refuge in March to fatten up on the grains grown around there for Coors beer.
The Refuge held their annual crane festival over this past weekend, which draws up to 1,500 people. So I was not sure what condition the refuge, or the birds, would be in today. But it turns out that both were doing fine.
We had the place to ourselves, and the birds were feeding in nearby fields and filling the sky with noisy flyovers.
It was a lovely road trip!
