DSNNRR back up to Silverton
Had a nice walk today and welcomed the railroad with it's "new" diesel bought from the White Pass and Yukon. Better for these dry times. We are already super dry and fire is going to be a problem again. The Durango-Silverton NN RR started regular service to Silverton a week or so ago. The three trains take about 400 people up there and back. The businesses in Silverton were very happy. Tomorrow is the Iron Horse BikeRace - from Durango to Silverton. The goal is to beat the train - 3 1/2 hours +-. Difficult.
I hope they paint the diesel in DSNNRR colors but it looks good as is I guess. The extras were taken along our walk, sitting behind our library. The Durango Botanical Club has done all of the wonderful landscaping between the library and the railroad so it is our sitting spot and turn for our walk. About 3 miles from our home to here. Good train watching.
The extras show the K-36 by the library. Also there as part of the concist was the glass topped gondola - "Silver Skies" I think. Probably the best ride on the train. The third blip was taken on the way home and was the K-28 along our path. Maybe my favorite loco on the line. Its whistle is different than the others and almost wailful. And bloody loud.
