Saw a locomotive visitor
On a walk today and along came a new friend. I have seen it for awhile but first chance to photograph it or be really near it running.
It is a Southern Pacific 2-6-0 from the Nevada-California-Oregon RR originally and then on the SP. It is an oil burner and the DSNNRR borrowed it to learn about running a oil conversion locomotive. The DSNNRR is currently modifying some or all of their locos to oil fuel. Way safer in our increasingly dry climate, and they make all the right sounds. Not as much smoke but that is OK. Still rock and roll and spit.
This little guy makes the best sound - way different from the big K-36s and K-28 running. Fun to see it. I believe its stay will be short and it is training the crews. Also helping on the long trains to get up over the hump north of town.
