Easter Crannich.
One of several long abandoned croft houses on Dava Moor. A glorious warm sunny day and inspired by an exhibition in Grantown we set off across the Moor from -'The Jesus Stone' to visit Easter and Wester Crannich. The Moor provides grazing for sheep who seemed indignant at our intrusion, a curlew displayed crying and flying up in an attempt to distract us from its nest in the Heather of and old peat Bank. We were pleased to see several snipe and lapwings and to hear their plaintive cries. Close to the ruined croft there were swallows and rooks and elsewhere in the heather pipits.
By the gable of Easter Crannich a Rowan still gives the traditional protection against witches but has been unable to ward off sad decay from the dwelling.
The extra shows layers of peeling wallpaper by the croft house stairs.
