Everyday I Write The Book

Ludlow Castle

Or unlovedlow castle as we called it. One of those tourist destinations that could do with a bit of TLC. Scruffy, no proper information, shabby facilities and a general air of being run like a jumble sale rather than a site of historic significance. It was well worth seeing, but rather like visiting an elderly relative in a sub standard care home, you came away feeling a little depressed. I’d love to have a conversation with the trustees about why it is like it is. But this view from the top is nice, it’s an interesting and unusual place with bags of potential - should be run by English Heritage or The National Trust, they would do it justice. And get rid of the plastic dragon ...

Ludlow itself is a charming town with a mixture of buildings going back to the 12th century. Fair bit of Georgian in the back streets. We bought some nice bowls and jugs in the market and had a picnic in the sunshine.

Overall a good day, and about right in terms of pace - my legs are still recovering from yesterday’s 18,000 steps in the Brecon national park!
