Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

News, good news, and bad news...

I went to the hospital for what I thought was an X-ray, but it was a chat with a personable young man (a doctor) about my ailments. He was personable because they only take patients every half hour (due to COVID), not every 15 minutes, so it’s all very relaxed.

The upshot was, I’ll try new pills and he’ll check on me in a month. If there’s no improvement, then he’ll do the next thing (an angiogram). And yes, the breathlessness could be connected to the numb legs/knees. Funny that after five years of complaining about them to the numerous specialists I have seen over the years - no one has thought of that...

I stopped off in town on the way home to check out a couple of shoe shops. Actually, four shoe shops. Not my favourite activity. I did really like one pair, went to buy them, but no - they don’t take Apple Pay! I’ve never come across that before.

I needed a reward for my stamina - a Prêt coffee (oops - and a croissant) before my bus came.

We got the news that - sniff - our fantastic 5* 6* holiday to Norway, sailing from Edinburgh at the end of July... has been cancelled. We are SO disappointed, but it always was a gamble. We booked it many months ago, thinking hoping the pandemic would be under control by now. But no - the Indian Delta variant, along with people being stupid, has put paid to any relaxation of the restrictions. *sigh*

We sat out in the back garden in the sun and had a couple of gins to drown our sorrows. We texted Hazel to come and enjoy the last of the sun and hear our holiday news commiserate with us.

Uncle A is back home at last. My cousin was with him all day with NHS people coming and going. Great!

After I had left this morning, Beatrice, Archie’s new walker took him out for a two hour Hermitage walk. I was there for their return. She was SO enthusiastic about how good he was (compared with the two other dogs she takes out).
