Grammie Fun's Kitchen
Early this evening before sunset, the two of us drove across town to Grammie Fun's house to check on the final work of the construction people.
Back in January when we were gone to the Central Coast a pipe broke under Grammie Fun's kitchen sink. The insurance company immediately stepped in and assured her that they would clean-up the mess and repair the damages.
She has been living at the Residence's Inn a couple miles from her home for the past month while all the construction work has been happening. She's 90 years old so this has been quite a ordeal for her. She cannot live with us because the bedrooms in our home are all upstairs and she no longer can walk up the stairs.
For many years she has said she would never move from her home. Mr. Fun's parents built that house in 1955 with inheritance money they received from Mr. Fun's paternal grandmother who had been a successful business woman in this community.
While we understand Grammie Fun's desire to never move from that home, we also think that she would be quite happy in one of the new senior citizen residential communities in our city where she could have a small apartment of her own, and she'd be much safer in a place where there were people to check in on her every day. We know she would love the social atmosphere. So living at the Residence's Inn has helped her to recognize some of that.
But her house, oh what a mess. We stopped there yesterday afternoon and were quite disappointed with the quality of the clean-up after the construction was completed. So first thing this morning Mr. Fun called the man in charge to explain that the condition of the house was unacceptable. He said he'd get it taken care of.
The house is still not the spic-n-span that we think she'd like, but we think it'll do. The real mess will be in sorting through all the drawers and cupboards and trying to get everything back where it belongs. All the bottom cupboards were empty of their contents so that the water damage could be taken care of. The workers installed all new countertops and a completely new floor. We think the room looks quite nice. We're hoping when she sees it tomorrow she'll agree. Tomorrow she'll move home.
Good night from from Grammie Fun's Kitchen,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
