Welcome Back...
...to the Cottage! Such a welcome sight it is to pull into the back bay of our cottage ( main blip) and envision another week in paradise ahead of me! It doesn't take long to get back on to island time, to forget about the stresses of urban living, and to fall into the rhythms of daily cottage life. Sunrise and sunset are anchors with their own rituals attached..coffee on the dock for the former, boat ride out onto the bay to watch the latter. The day is spent doing what you love to do - reading, swimming, boating, fishing, napping...whatever. Happy hour is on the dock in late afternoon and it is then that the local wildlife starts to stir... the beaver swims by at 5 :00 dragging greenery to his dam to feed his family dinner. The heron flies in and struts along the shore in search of his dinner..( extra) The pileated woodpecker pecks away on a dead tree across the water and then flies over us to go back to his nest, our two families of geese arrive to graze on the grass ..and of course, this leads to our own dinner preparations, portions of which are prepared on the BBQ in the porch, along with glasses of wine and conversation. Tonight , a lone loon supplied the dinner music..his lonely call reverberating over the calm water... Like, pinch me...Can this get any better?
