Grey Heron

The young one had picked an awkward spot to stand today as there was no water nearby. She had a couple of pieces of fish off the ground then just took off letting out a call as she flew off which was strange as I rarely hear her call. I had no idea where she went as she flew off through some trees along the shore. I thought it was rather strange but assumed she was not hungry today and had just flown off. I wandered round the loch until I reached a clearing in the trees and spotted her standing on a dead tree in the middle of the loch. As soon as she spotted me she flew over and stood in the water to get the rest of her fish. She is so clever I hardly believe it at times. The shot is of her coming in to land
I thought today she was beginning to look a bit more adult. Her white plumage is a definite white not yellow tinged and the grey feathers on her head are getting much lighter.
