Puffins!
Rob wanted to carry out a sea watch this morning so we dropped him off overlooking Scappa Flow and took Pepper to a lovely beach just along the coast Waulkmill Bay.
The tide was going out and she had a good scamper and paddle. We saw Red breasted mergansers, in full breeding plumage and a couple of divers.
We spent the afternoon at Yesnaby, looking for the elusive Scottish Primrose. Alas, the flowering time had passed and we saw only leaf rosettes. To make up for it though, a delightful spectacle of puffins coming and going into their rocky nests on the side of the cliff. I have never seen them so close before, and they seemed to be looking right back at us! Katie was delighted as she hadn’t seen them before.
What a splendid place this is!
