Greenfinch ( Carduelis chloris )
Another day occupied by doing jobs I probably should have done ages ago.
I don't seem to have done many bird shots of late so I felt it was time I blipped one. One of the main reasons for not blipping birds is their current lifestyle. When it isn't breeding season they seem to arrive in greater numbers and hang about in the bushes. Currently they are arriving as singles dashing in grabbing some food and off.
We luckily have good numbers of Greenfinches for most of the year. Recently numbers nationwide have suffered. Trichomonosis has been the problem, it is a disease caused by a protozoan parasite - Trichomonas gallinae. The decline was first noticed in 2006, as the parasite does not survive long outside the body the normal hygiene of cleaning feeders regularly is very important.
