Make Every Day Memorable

He's out !

I was up at dawn but just can't function without a couple of cups of tea, so it was 6.30 when I left the house.
It's just a short drive (or a hilly walk) to the woodpecker's tree and I was pleased to see it bathed in lovely warm sunlight.
As I got out of the car I could hear the adult bird calling and, soon after, the youngster answering back.
Neither bird was in the hollow tree and it was apparent that my new little friend had escaped his wooden pen, fledging probably within the hours since dawn.
He had flown into the next tree along the lane and was looking very bewildered and, to my eye, very exposed to the passing rooks.
He scrambled along branches and hid away for a breakfast of grubs delivered by an irate parent.
I don't think it was just me causing the panic as the calls were going on before I arrived.
After he had fed he tried to follow the adult and ended up very low down the trunk of the tree. Even more exposed but he only stayed long enough for me to secure my blip today.
It's difficult to see how small he is apart from comparing him to the size of the ivy leaves.
Soon after I left them in peace, hoping that this big, wide world is kind to them.

I've added one of him peeping out in extras as well as another in yesterday's blip.
