One of the gardens open for charity is at Stobshiel House at the edge of the Lammermuir hills. it is very varied and includes a woodland garden with wild flowers and bog plants beside a little stream, a lily pond, masses of rhododendrons and azaleas in flower, and a walled garden full of all sorts of herbaceous plants. There are several sculptures and a very impressive sundial which was designed for the particular location and latitude and commemorates the owners and their four children. I had made a sort of pinhole card to see the partial eclipse through the pinhole but unfortunately it was mostly cloudy until after the eclipse but I can verify that the sundial was very accurate at midday. The sundial was meant to be the main blip as part of my series on sundials but the photos were rather disappointing. The garden is very impressive and although it is possibly at its best now with the rhododendrons in flower it must be beautiful throughout the seasons
