Black 5

We went from Pickering to Whitby today, hauled there by this 1937 'Black5' named after the Bishop of Wakefield Eric Treacy, who just happened to be a railway photographer.

More on the loco here

Worth reading up on William Stainer who designed these workhorse do anything, go anywhere locos. He started off as a drawing office gopher, ended up as president of the institute of mechanical engineers.

Quite sunny in Whitby, fish & chips next to the harbour and I walked up to the Abbey while the others were shopping.  Hot on the way back so we were all dozing off and in need of an ice cream once back in Pickering.

Connectivity not brilliant so I'll catch up on comments when the opportunity arises.
