Nunnington Hall
I know its not the first Saturday of the month, but I think this qualifies for Silly Saturday :-)
Nunnington Hall has been our place to visit today, and on a sunny summer day it looks just splendid. Inherited in something of a state in 1920 by Margaret Fife (nee Ruston) and her husband Colonel Ronald D'Arcy Fife. They sold another inherited house to finance the renovations and hired the architect Walter Brierley to organise the work. Some of their letters to Brierley are on display which give a great insight into their approach - and there are several quotes from Margaret printed onto items around the building. The inheritance came from her side of the family and it is seems clear she was definitely in charge, although colonel Fife supported her and clearly understood when delegating to the person with the necessary aptitude was the right thing to do.
There is a display from the last several years of the British Wildlife Photography Awards in the top floor gallery so an extra reason for blippers to visit.
Thanks to everyone for your visits and awards.
I'll put a few more on Flikr when we are home next week.
