French Open

It’s semi finals time at the French Open at Roland Garros. Tennis is our favourite spectator sport, but we hardly watched any last season. Wimbledon was cancelled, and we didn’t have the heart to watch the French and US Opens with empty stadiums. I think we were in denial, or at any rate we thought everything, including the tennis, would be back to normal by the beginning of 2021. It wasn’t of course and we did watch the Australian Open, delayed until February and played without crowds.

The French Open is being played with some spectators, all wearing masks. Well, when I say ‘wearing’, yes, everyone seems to have one, but so many are worn beneath the nostrils, or indeed under the chin. It’s funny to see the wearers hastily pull the mask up when they sense the camera is on them.

I like these colours in the opening to the TV broadcast. They exactly capture the colours of Roland Garros, and the red clay also looks rather like the Australian outback.
