It had to be done
Day 2 on the big Holden Road Trip and its the classic NZ pier, mountain, lake shot!
We're all a little weary after a night spent with Mr A at one end of the small field in his car and Mr & Mrs B at the other end in their caravan. both played loud music and got progressively more drunk as the night wore on. various abuses were shouted at one another, the car was regularly revved and the lights flashed, dog of B party barked and we all looked at each other wondering what kind of a night lay ahead ! Mike slept in the tent while Yola and I had the van. The old alchies quietened down at about 01.00, but to be honest they were playing really good music and none of us minded laying in bed listening to decent sounds!
Got up early and headed off to Nelson Lakes. We walked up Mount Robertson, a 5 hour circular route. It continues to be like a living geography lesson, with spectacular interlocking V shape valleys and massive scree slopes, with the lakes at the base. The route took us through woodland and up steep gravel paths to the saddle along the top where it was wild and windy with views across mountain ranges as far as we could see. It was good to only have a day backpack on and made the journey up in the heat and sunshine much easier. Home to Stan, all sweaty and happy, with a baby wipe for our troubles!
